As various replies have said, it's market specific whether there are regulations.

However, whether we like it or not, "consumer" electronics, which is what most modern cameras are, are meant by their manufacturers to be used for a few years and then discarded.  Of course we can attempt to circumvent that, but for me I can't see it being worh the effort.  Pushing against the market is hard work.

Of course, if I owned a professional level dslr, it might be different.
