How well does the KP auto focus in low light with the plastic 50 1.8 at 1.8? I'm thinking about getting back into Pentax with the current prices for kp. My k5 and k50 were very frustrating with focus issues. I sold them off but kept my cheap 35 and 50 just in case and they couldn't fetch much in the used market anyway.

The Kp is good in low light. The centre and one up and one under it AF are f2.8 AF points.

I made pictures for a dance school and when my K5 gave up, I used a K5 II, which had one f2.8 AF in the centre and could focus on very dark scenes with the K5 II. My KP do the same now, only faster !

I know kp is a couple generations ahead. Also, in low light situations like small, intimate music venues, would live view and electronic shutter with 50 1.8 be able to catch the action?

The KP use in LV the contrast AF and this will be too slow for your situation. Use instead the OVF and it's fast Phase AF system than.

BTW, the KP' shutter sound is so quiet (like a K5) that the use of a electronic shutter (with it's problem of rolling shutter) is not needed.
