If the cam breaks, the hassle of getting it repaired will probably have you buying a replacement anyway. Given the way prices drop, if you do have a favourite over a couple of years old, you could probably pick up another one for less than the repair cost.
Keeping one for spares is pointless too, arguably there's only one brand that would repay that investment and the entry cost there is so high you couldn't afford to have one sitting on the shelf; youl'd repair that one too, so you could sell it.
