How to attach a 1.25” lens to a 58mm filter thread?

I tried asking already, but with no response about how to attach an objective lens to the end of a telephoto lens with a 58mm filter thread. The objective lens is 1.25”. I tried it without a lens attached to my camera but there was virtually no depth of field, which is supposed to mean that the lens is infinite, based on what I read. I have obtained a t mount adapter a while ago for astro. Seems like it might be possible to do something, but not sure which is the best decision, get an RMS adapter instead or take a spare lens cap and make a hole (preferrably with an internal filter thread if feasible) for the the objective lens (and maybe the t mount adapter also) to go into. A step up ring seems like the opposite of what I might need.
