Dangers of shooting backlit photos on EOS R/Mirrorless Cameras?

Hello friends!

I am a new owner of an EOS R and it is actually my first mirrorless camera. I did an extensive amount of research but it has been brought to my attention that there are dangers regarding the sensor and direct sunlight. Because of the lack of a mirror, there is nothing protecting/blocking the sensor from getting direct sun exposure and therefore it can burn or damage it.

That all makes sense, but do I need to worry about natural backlighting for portraits? I often shoot wide open at 1.2 during golden hour and I love the look of light rays peeking in from behind the subject. I'm worried that the sensor might be vulnerable to even those few moments of direct sunlight hitting it.
