Close-up filters / extension tubes for dental photography

Hi there.

I have a Nikon 105mm VR Micro on a DX body and use autofocus (center-point). If I want to get bigger than 1:1 magnification, and still retain auto-focus, would I be better off with a quality close-up filter (i.e. Canon 250D or Marumi DHG Achromat Macro 200/330) or extension tubes? (don't they cause light loss?)

Regards,
