For the the longest of time I have sold some lenses because I simply kept them stored. Always thinking some day I am going to use them again. Like for example I have a variable aperture lens tamron 18-270mm that I have not used in months. I also have a sigma 17-50mm 2.8 that one has been used in recent weeks. The most I use has been my Nikon 85mm 1.4 The bottom line is do you keep lenses stored for months or years and decide keep them anyway even if you are not using them?

The only one I've kept long term but use very lightly is a 24-105L mk 1 (still useful for scenarios where I can only take one lens or am in an environment where I don't wish to be changing lenses).

Otherwise I've sold stuff onto friends or dealers, usually because it's been replaced by a better lens of the same/similar focal length and is therefore never likely to be used again. It means stuff isn't depreciating in a drawer, and frees up money for other things.
