I suspect it is a mixture between sometimes camera and sometimes user. I have found a smaller focusing box helps for close up shots. But it was not designed as a close up type of lens.

Thanks! Yes, smaller box does help, but still found it difficult at times, as the edge of the (close) object has the most contrast and is therefore usually the "easiest" to focus on for the cam/lens. It's not a lens I use often, actually mostly in poor weather and sometimes for events.

For indoors/lowlight, I'd take the tiny 35 1.2 in my jeans pocket as a second lens.

It is very much an all round jack of all trades type of lens. Not excelling at anything but does a good job 99% of the time.

Yes that's my impression too.

It is a fact the 35 f2 isn't great close up. That is for certain! But by close I mean very near to its minimum focus distance. Take it a bit further away and it is fine again.

I'll experiment with this too, thanks for the suggestion!
