The f1.4 DOF and character are areas that define the f1.4, that f2 will never achieve.

Given most Fuji mirrorless aren't the quickest focusing cameras anyway if that's super important to you then perhaps a Sony A9 system is what he needs

I disagree with you. One extra stop does not guarantee anything . Character is equally reliant upon an able photographer. I have taken many fabulous shots with my 35 mm F 2 and unless I also had 1.4 side by side you wouldn’t be able to come to any comparative conclusions.

my feelings about the 1.4 vs the 2.0 is that they both offer some unique advantages, both can produce great shots , and the photographer can be successful with either. Variety is the spice of life, if they didn’t offer choices these forums would be boring.
