Re: will the g9x iii ever come?

I Bought a G9X II in 2017 when it was released and used it extensively. I think it’s an almost perfect camera (if you look at price, size and weight). I especially like how well thought out the user interface is .
The only thing I really hate about it is sloooooow autofocus in video. It almost takes for ever to focus. So sometimes when you shoot video, the first few seconds are not in focus or focus is never achieved at all (especially when you are moving or when you are filming moving subjects)
Interesting what will happen when Canon get hold of a Sony PDAF sensor. They have not invested much effort over the years in to contrast detect so how they will cope with embedded PDAF when all their expertise is in dual pixel is a mystery. Problems like banding and heaven knows what else will need to be addressed.
Difficult to know how Canon can continue in compacts or what they can bring to new models if they are unable to get their own competitive dual pixel 1" sensor.
I bought the G5X Mk I for its particular merits knowing the focusing was the weak point but the rudimentary focusing modes in Canon compacts must come as a shock to many people nowadays.
As for the G9X III I don’t expect much of it. If they will release a G9 X III they will probably release it when they run out of Digic 7 processors and the improvements will be the standard Digic 8 improvements: higher fps in continues modes, 4k video, vertical video and a usb-c connector.
I never use continues mode, the video can be 4k but if the focus isn’t good…. And I always use USB charging but if Canon puts in a USB-C socket then a PD-charger is probably required which doesn’t add to the user experience in my opinion.
But I hope I’m wrong.
