Re: which Sigma lenses for SD1M

For the SDQ(H) and the SD1M the best lenses are 1.8/18-35 and 1.8/50-100. All other lenses I own, including the DG lenses show significant limitations with both sensor types above. I think that both lenses, which are totally unique, are made for the high resolution APS-C(H) sensors from Sigma. The zoom DC lenses are good for the SD14/15 cameras. There is only one fixed DC lens, the 1.4/30 but also drops in the corners.
In the center the fixed focus lenses come close to the above twin. Beside that also the 18-35 dops in the corners the corners of the DGs are no comparison. I simply own also SA-mount DG lenses to have options for Sony A7x and Foveon FF via MC-11/21.
Sigma developed in the mean time a DC DN 1.4/16+30+56 series which is outstanding. My guess is that these lenses deliver near similar performance as the fixed DG Art series but need a higher resolution sensor like the Quattro:

This lens peak at 90lp/mm with a 3/4 sensor. This is equivalent to 60lp/mm at FF, the typical value of the DG Art series. An ideal match for a Quattro APS-C sensor in a SD body in L-mount. Simply cut the barrel off the SD and you are done with a compact and high resolution system. If the FF get more delay than 2020 I expect exact this combination as an intermediate solution.
From LinkedIn I have sean that engineers at Foveon are working on 50+M sensors. So my guess is that after the 20M merrill there will be also a 40M quattro. Buth I am skeptical if the new DG DN lenses are good enough.
thanks for the tips. I just ordered 1.8/18-35 to see how will be the results. I like to see it perform in SD1M with lots of sharpness and maybe with little bit improvement on auto focusing.
