Re: One of the best 100/2.8 low cost lens

In 1981 Nikon added the silver aperture ring. On the 100mm E lens they also added a technical improvement in the optical design to reduce internal reflections. I have the 28, 35, 50 pancake, and the 75-150mm zoom E versions. I have never seen Nikon talk about any differences in the E version compared to their other lenses, except for the obvious light weight body and trim to go with the EM.

At that time we hard core Nikon shooters wouldn't be caught dead with an E lens. But in later years a lot of us have picked nice E lens up to use with adapters on other brand cameras. They were actually quite nice, built to satisfy demand from knew shooters for a light weight lens to go with their EM. The only people that will tell if there is any difference in the optics, is someone that has rebuilt Nikon lenses, both E (probably economy), and regular Ai and Ais versions.
