Why should I not buy the EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro (non L) for EOS R?

IS makes the L optically superior.

As far as I know IS has nothing to do with the optical quality. It does increase the keeper rate when shooting handheld (camera shake, not subject movement). And because of this you can shoot at lower shutter speeds and still achieve sharp images. IS also is not very beneficial at macro distances. Had I to buy this lens now, I would choose the L instead of the non-L, only because the price difference is quite small. I would like the IS when shooting handheld at longer distances (not macro). When I bought mine, the L had just come out the year before (I think) and the price difference was considerably more. I have not read of anyone buying the L over the non-L for the supposedly better optics. And in any review I've read about the L, none have said that the optics were visually much better than the non-L. Just my opinion.
