Just a quick shout out to anyone curious about the 24 1.8s compared to the 24mm end of the 24-70 2.8 s zoom...

I've been shooting the zoom since the Summer and was anxious to finally get my hands on the 24 prime which just came out a few weeks ago. Well after spending a week or so shooting it I can honestly say that i prefer the 24-70 for a 24mm focal length. Yes, the 1.8 is handy for low (almost no) light situations, but something about the rendering and colors of the 24-70 beat it out for me. I also found the edges sharper on the zoom! Not exactly sure how Nikon is pulling that off, but that was my experience with it.

The 24 1.8 is what i would call very good, but not great. Not 50 1.8s great or 24-70 2.8s great.

Hope this helps anyone considering the purchase!

Cheers - DL

I came to the same conclusion as far as the edges are concerned when comparing it with the 14-30.

You found the 14-30 better at 24 than the 24 1.8?

I'm seriously considering the 14-30...
