Read the Adobe white paper. It makes the facts very clear about Gamma and RGB working spaces:

"The other attribute is called the gamma encoding of the working space. This gamma encoding has no relationship to the gamma of your display!"

Actually the motivation for my question was why the several calibration verification tests show a calibrated gamma of approx 1.4 instead of the 2.2 value that I set in calibration.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It really doesn’t matter when the rubber hits the road in color managed applications. Thanks to the architecture of display using monitor compensation. But since you have to pick something and can't select Native, use 2.2.

Any thoughts as to why this discrepancy? Just curious.

Like to see a screen capture of the report you specify.
