Hi, this may seem like a petty question but I was wondering why the colour on my 550d was so much richer than that of my new M3. I was wondering what part of the process would be responsible, as I have been unable to find a mirrorless camera with the same rich looking images. The M3 is better than the m100, but I am still slightly disappointed, although pleased by what the M3 can do. I thought it a might have been a case of higher MP's giving a more accurate and less atmospheric image, but I think it's more than that having compared images. If anyone can tell me what might be causing the difference it would be great to know what to look for in the future.

Thanks

I am assuming you are referring to the color of JPEG images.  Canon made significant changes to the color rendition with the M3 (mostly software programming decisions).  Subsequent cameras have somewhat reverted to what you are used to seeing from your 550d, but not quite.  This was a major point of contention when the M3 was released as the images looked nothing like what we were used to seeing from our M and M2 cameras.  White balance behavior on the M3 also skewed from previous models.

Shooting RAW and post processing with Canon's DPP software will get your closer to your 550d, but and exact match is unlikely.  If you want out of camera JPEGs that look like your 550d, the best option would be to pick up a M2, unfortunately.
