Norton Utilities now runs on Catalina (after some efforts made)

For any of you who have noted that Norton 360 and Antivirus no longer worked properly after upgrading to Catalina, it can be made to work now.

The symptoms were that it would complain that the Antivirus was at risk and then would popup a claim that an update needed to be done. But when attempting to do the update, it would fail.

I finally got this to work by removing Norton from the system and re-installing it.  Note however, that Catalina now required Firewall to be turned on and Norton had to be added to the allowed list.   When installing, you must check the allow box that comes up too.

After this procedure, it re-installed OK and runs fine.

I had seen some argument that Catalina's security had been so improved that anti-virus was no longer needed, but given that constant updates are required to keep pace with ever changing malware, I find that hard to believe.   IOW it just doesn't seem reasonable to assume that Catalina will constantly download checks against new malware.

Nor does Catalina influence browsers with things like Safeweb, etc.

"If you are among those who believe that it has all been done already and nothing new can be achieved, you've murdered your own artistry before ever letting it live. You abort it in its fetal state. There is much that has yet to be spoken in art and composition and it grows with the passage of time. Evolving technologies, world environments and ideologies all drive change in thoughts, passion and expression. There is no way that it can all ever be done already. And therein lies the venue for the creative artist, a venue that is as diverse as the universe is unmapped and unexplored." - Quote from FlyingLentris
