Appears some sort of consensus - lens optics can have photograph quality detracting variation that can be detected by knowledgeable users / tests. This variation is affected by the amount of money that can be expended in the manufacture and in this incidence the fact that it is zoom and a five times one at that. Setting acceptance criteria is not always an easy thing – I was pushing a marine radar producer to tell me the final assembly test spec, rather sheepishly they said if both the fairly elderly test technicians agreed that they could see the railway tracks adjacent to factory in sufficient detail it was a good to go..
