Portrait lens bang for buck

I have been using my 20mm 1.7 for most of my portraits - but never been that amazed with the results.

Probably more me than the equipment.. but I have a budget up to about £400 to buy a nice lens primarily for head / head and torso shots.  Looking for nice quality with shallow DOF on a panasonic G9.

Would be prepared to go manual if need be.  Was thinking 42.5 would be the ideal focal length - but happy to be persuaded otherwise.

Buying in the UK. Happy to get 2nd hand given the limited budget - but not seeing anything nice on EBAY just now.

Any suggestions?
