Аnd yet the 32mm is ridiculously sharper in the middle.
I think where you might be getting hung up on sharpness is because of such shallow DoF, where it is in focus, it's SHARP, but it's a more razor thin DoF then the 32mm, which btw, is no slouch. To your point, it may in fact be a bit sharper in some situations potentially.
The 018, you in fact need to often stop down, as your subject is not in focus at f/1.4 @ 56mm, which somewhat defeats the purpose. The quality of the bokeh makes anything not in focus, a bit jarring which might be part of your hangup.
Arguably my beef, is the quality of the bokeh and color, as well as the tight framing make for less "natural" shots. The AF is fast and accurate (and works with eye-AF!). The pincushion without LR correction is a bit of a problem (not a large one, but large enough I recommend post processing).
Corrected, Camera Standard (adapted from M50), Sigma 56mm f/1.4
At the end of the day, I just didn't like my shots I got out of it, so back it went. I gave it a couple days to "give it a chance", I just couldn't make myself like this lens.
Samyang/Rokinon 50mm f/1.2 @ f/1.2
Compared to the Rokinon 50mm f/1.2 I have, I just love what I get out of it. Smooth bokeh, warmer colors. Yes, Manual Focus. But at 50mm, it's more natural framing, sharp lens, and I like the handling of it better even though I believe it's heavier, it's weight is distributed more naturally.
For basic consumers, Siggy 56 is a no brainer for portrait bokeh shots. But it's got some hiccups that I couldn't get over.
I ordered the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art. Might not be your cup of tea for the colors too, but it is at least 50mm in stead of 56mm. I thought it would be nice to have a compact option next to the 50-100mm .
