Short take on the A7RIV - it's insane, but so is 61 mp ...

It's been about a week. Next to my A7III...

I'm thrilled about: the exceptional EVF (really), improved ergonomics, improved AF, eye-AF in video, separate stills / video FN menus, miscellaneous menu tweaks, better port layout, sweeter shutter sound, apparently better weather sealing, slightly but noticeably improved IS ...

Not so sure about: 61mp. Those ~60mb+ *compressed RAW files put a notable a strain on my 11" ipad pro, both in terms of storage and processing ... but your workflow might be different. And I don't print.

Dislike: 8-bit video, low(ish) res LCD that does not articulate in all directions.

My take? It's a keeper - for sure. The RIV is a refined instrument across the board: more powerful, more precise, more thought through. But beware storage, and processing (potentially). I managed to snag mine at EDU pricing. At full price, I'd be inclined to leave it alone as as a professional, working photographer's tool. 61mp is a badge of purposeful design, and kudos to Sony for doing such a good job.

Side note: anyone on the fence about ponying up the cash should go ahead and buy the A7III, or A7RIII (which I've never used) if they need the resolution. The 7III is an absolute darling that punches so far above its weight in terms of returns. I don't see mine going anywhere anytime soon.

Happy shooting folks!
