Best 'ready to shoot' mode for X-T2?

I have an X-T2 with a battery grip.  When looking for birds to shoot I want to be ready to shoot immediately but I also want my batteries to last as long as possible.  If I have everything switched off, when I see a bird I want to shoot, I have to turn on the main camera switch, and the switch for the grip before shooting.

I've used the View Mode button to turn off the rear screen which I don't use but I'm aware as long as I have the camera switched on the EVF is still alive (but I don't know for how long).

So is it best to continue what I'm doing (i.e. both camera and grip turned on but screen turned off) as I look for birds, or should I have the grip turned on but then turn on the camera when I want to shoot, or should I have everything turned off till I want to shoot?

Fujifilm X-T2
