How to get that kid to SMILE!
1

At a recent "Pictures with Santa" session we did there were of course kids of all ages ranging from babes in arms to teenagers. Bring 'em up with their parents to pose with Santa, snap the shot, print the 5x7 image, stuff it in a Christmas folder and give it to them on their way out to the next stop at the venue.

The majority of these kids, are pretty good and willingly assume the positions, and smile on command, But there's always a few that just don't cooperate. Most common reason is that especially the very young kids are just distracted and no amount of gyrating, waving, shouting from friends & family members can get their attention. (I've often thought that taking some video of their often quite humorous yet  futile efforts would be a more memorable deliverable than the actual print-- but that's another story... )

As we've done many of these type events and always see the same thing, I've been wondering if there might be some kind of object, or noise, or... that might help to get the kiddies to at least look toward the camera and perhaps even smile?

Of course nothing would be foolproof and there's always the older kids that are just plainly not into it and would rather bite off their tongues than smile, but hey-- that's the challenge.  And given there's many hundreds waiting in line, there's just not a lot of time to work with.
