Sony 70-200 f/4 for Indoor Sports/Action

I’ve been shooting Nikon for the past few years. Having previously shot with the D750, D850, and currently the Z6.

Our kids are active in sports and I’ve found the Tamron 70-200 G2 invaluable, particularly for indoor sports where the gym lighting ranges from bad to awful.

I’m about this close to moving over to Sony. Particularly the a7r iii. I miss the crop-ability of the D850, but not the bulk and I love EVF. The a7r iii is in my price range. Most other lenses that I want are affordable as well. However, I’m having a hard time coughing up the $$$ for the 70-200 2.8 gm.

I’m wondering if the 70-200 4 is sufficient in terms of IQ and tracking on the a7r iii for the situation I described? Or how well do adapted Canons work? Or should I quit fooling myself and just go for the 2.8 gm?

TIA!
