Turing off IS while using a tripod on Panasonic Lumix G9

I rarely use a tripod, but I was trying to photograph an owl in low light.  I can switch off IS on my lens, but going into the menu system of the G9, I can not seem to be able to turn it off for photos in camera.  Does that really matter?  I am using the Pany 100-400 lens.  Is it really that important to turn off image stabilization on your lens?  Will the vibration of the lens make that much of a difference?  TIA for any advice.
