Canada goose on thin ice

In many places Canada geese are considered a nuisance. They are not an endangered species, and it wouldn't be a stretch to say they're widely hated.

And yet I can't help but feel a little sad for this one, whose prospects are not good -- if it even survived the last two days. Separated from the now long-gone flock, ice starting to form on the lake, little open water... there was nothing I could do for it and little it could do for itself aside from make it to shore, which it did after a considerable struggle to walk on the ice and/or to get back onto it after falling through a couple of times.

Nothing to do about the light, either. Late afternoon, with the bird essentially backlit and no place to go for a different angle.
