IIRC Digikam on macOS was a bit more limited than on other platforms, but it's been a while.

And while I think it's worthy, if the OP doesn't wanna spend money (seems to be the priority) then I'd suggest using Bridge for free. It's a browser, but fast, and one can use it in conjunction with PL3. Just a matter of setting up a good workflow. Not even on the same continent, let alone ballpark, as the Adobe plans and their features, but it sounds like the OP's needs are quite modest.

And BTW, if on a Mac consider Graphic Converter. It can do an awful lot more than convert files, and can use three different raw conversion engines, and can do all kinds of metadata manipulation, from keywords to geotagging.
