First you claim it's due to more "scans", now it's due to heat buildup. Well we can test for that too, very easily. Turn the camera on and within the first second, take a photo. Then another shot after you leave the camera on, running, scanning, for what, ten minutes? Half hour?

I never claimed anything, I simply stated for DPAF it has to scan at least twice as much.

here's my statement again, since you seem to be stating something I didn't:

"not only does it run all the time on the M50 (and mirrorless) but it also has to run at least twice as much. one scan for AF another scan for image."

See any claims there?

I simply stated a fact, for DPAF, there has to be one scan for phase difference (ie: AF) and one scan for image. At the minimum, who knows how many scans Canon is doing for AF.

Will that cause a DR / Noise difference. More than likely, it's well proven by folks that use cameras for astronomy that cameras have to be cooled otherwise noise will creep up with exposure and time. Liveview compounds that because you are continually accessing the sensor.

I don't need to prove this to you because we are talking about common knowledge. Look it up in Google.

here you go.. here's a study done.

have at it.

Astronomy imaging is using either long exposures of minutes to hours, or hundreds/thousands of images consecutively. Hence the heat buildup is cause DURING the exposure, not from LV running at an idle. Just idling in LV does cause some heat but nowhere near what is generated during an exposure where the sensor is recording the data, and clearly not even enough to make a difference in visual noise, as we can see with shots taken in a test i described before.

If one is shooting a very long exposure, there may very well be a difference between an M50 with little heat dissipation space and something like an 80D. For 99.9% of users, they will never encounter that.
