Sad but I have to let go NX30 system. How about an alternative?

Hello.

My NX30 fails with the know problem of freeze (I have to take battery out) and unreliable dials.

It's sad, but I want to go with another system.

I'll put at sale my 50-200 and great 30 f2.0 that works fine.

I have the Lumix G85 (great nice camera, great IBIS!) but miss the IQ of my NX30.

I've read that Fujifilm X-T30 or X-H1 are a good alternatives. Have some of you tryed out? how well performs compared to NX30?

Also I'm tempted to go with Sony A7III, but the price and bad ergonomics pull me out.

I would like to have IBIS. It's something that I want to count on, after used the G85.

(sorry for my bad english)

Hello everybody.

This thread is not dead (yet).

Why is so important to choose one system or another?

I think it's because of money.

If I could have all the enough money, I could have multiple systems and in the end I may choose two or three to keep.

But it's not my case.

At this point, I'll give Fujifilm X-T30 a try.

The camera arrives in a couple of weeks.

I stumbled upon some Fuji Galleries and the pics seems soft to me:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4441982

compared with some of the NX30:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4286076

I understand that the model and the lens used in Fuji's gallery have to taken in account, but I'm restless about what I have done.

Well, let's see what happen...
I went with the x-h1 + grip and 16-55 f/2.8 combo about a month ago. I don't know much about Samsung lenses, but compared to my Pentax gear that Fuji zoom is awesome. Like any system, some lenses are magic, some are one trick ponies, and some get forgotten. Generally, I think Fuji has great glass. I love their aperture rings. I would say their least attractive feature is a lack of support from major third party vendors. Some people get around it by shooting Canon lenses with a Fringer adapter.
Quite honestly the 16-50S is faster (2f until around 32mm), sharper and have IS, while being both lighter and smaller.
I don't know anything about that lens. I did watch samsung for a number of years and wanted into their system but they didn't produce a body that i wanted until the nx1, which was too expensive for me at the time.
The X-H1 is maybe the Fuji camera with the worst sales the last couple of years, it doesn't make sense at all when you have the utterly better X-T3 on a similar price and back then the cheaper but similar X-T2. Bet you found it dead cheap, maybe less than a used NX1.
It was introduced at a price that was untenable. As you say, it's like an x-t2 but it has a better grip, a quieter shutter and IBIS. Again, I'm new to the system but it seems the consensus is the gains from the x-t3 over the x-t2 are overrated. I bought the whole lot for $1700, which isn't cheap to me, but certainly a fair deal and less than the debut price of the body alone.
The NX1 + 16-50S 2-2.8f and some lenses I can't find in any other system are keeping me still in the system. Mind that. Ergonomics still unbeatable, while Fuji needs at least a generation or two to polish their User Interface and ergonomics.
Fuji's ergonomics and user interface are hurt largely by the retro interface, though there are some plusses like the aperture rings.
I haven't used the 30 and 3, but I am hearing various negatives (cameras that stuck, easily pressed buttons, lesser manufacturing quality control e.t.c).
The only gripes I have are battery life and their wireless phone app.
The NX lenses are among the top in every specific category. There is no NX lens not near, or at the top of its respected category, while used to be a lot cheaper than most.
It's puzzling that they pulled the plug on the whole project. I thought if nothing else that 28mp sensor would have shown up in another manufacture's camera.

I love the 16-50s lens but I have to correct you that f2 is only available from 16 - 20mm, where it reduces to f2.2.

Yes, you are right, I do not remember exactly, maybe at 32mm goes to 2.8f. In anyway it is faster than any other such zoom lens.

Even the new Sony doesn't have I.S and it is 2.8f.

You should always try the camera out in real life or, at least, in the shop before you buy. Shape of the body, dials and buttons - it's quite impossible for description or video to convey as much information as actually holding it in your hands. I wanted to change the system some time ago and tried out the XT30, among many other cameras, but I kept accidentally bumping into controls (Q menu the most). This does not mean that the camera is bad, it just means it's not a good fit for me.

Regarding the softness - Fuji uses X-trans sensor that generally produces softer images unless you use one of the raw developers that have good support for Fuji files so head over to Fuji forum and see what they recommend. I know that free Raw Therapee does a good job (it supports several algorithms) but the UI is not to everyone's taste.

Either way, I'm sure the camera will serve you well, but it might take some getting used to.
Thank you for the info.

Yes, I would like to try the X-T30 in real life before buy it, but in my town there are none physical store that hadle it, so I'm out ouf luck. Neither a rental shop.

I buy the camera in a sale at good price (at least in my country) so if I don't like, can resell it without losing money (I hope).

I'm aware of some software problems handling Fuji's raw files and I don't mind using something different if i have to, in order to get clean and sharp images.

...I still felt compelled to answer for a number of reasons.

To begin with, there's no doubting how nice the NX30 is (was). I still have mine and I love the color tonality, touch screen and general operation. But to be honest here, the one area where the NX sensors falter - and that's in the area of DR. The NX30 had horrible dynamic range, IMO - and there were just times when I couldn't do much with the RAW files (and I shoot RAW all of the time. But the NX30 is a keeper until it dies for the aforementioned reasons.

One of the other systems that I shoot with are a variety of Fuji X and Bayer sensor model cameras. And what a delight they are and each has one common denominator - that being that they all have exceptional DR capabilities in those RAW files. And for a RAW shooter like myself, I'm often tempted just to shoot JPG's because they are that lovely (rich and colorful).

I also shoot with the Canon EOS M system, along with various Micro 4/3 cameras, but in the end, the Fuji (IMO) wins hands down for areas like:

1. Exceptionally dynamic range in the RAW files.

2. Nice, rich color tonality - both from the X-Trans or Bayer files.

3. Fuji is quite religious with Firmware Updates - even for some older cameras 5 years out of circulation.

4. Fuji is doing quite well financially and they have a long range game plan for their APS-C cameras (and their Medium Format models).

5. The ergonomics of their cameras with all of their dials become really nice to use.

So, IMO, I'd say look at Fuji big time.
Hello everybody.

I would like to call Nikon Z50 to this arena...

The recent launch of Nikon Z50 move things a little.

It's a nice looking camera, with some good reviews and no much expensive. Cost around the same that X-T30 both with kit lenses (I know Fuji kit lens is better).

And it's a Nikon, That have to be good, right? ;-)

With the FTZ adaptor I could use some cheap Nikkor lenses like 50 f1.8, 50-200, etc. in the future, I could buy a native Z lens (FX), and perhaps, buy a Z6 and already have a small but useful lenses set.

Sadly, it doesn't have IBIS, so Z50 is in the same basket that Fuji's X-T30 and others.

What could you, the camera experts, can tell me about this camera as an option to replace the NX30? what about colors, user handling and other things?

btw, my X-T30 don't arrive yet.

Thanks for reading.

What about the Fuji X-A7? Well the T30 is better, but the X-a7, has a selfie LCD...

+1 for the Z50! Nikon was late in the game but it does all the right moves.

Nobody cares about my suggestions... snif, snif, such a cruel world :(... bye, bye, I'm gonna team up with Greta, and just sail away... :)

As you say, T30 seems better. The selfie screen would be nice on T30, but I can live without that. The X-A7 doesn't have EVF, so in case I choose Fujis, will be the X-T30. Thanks for your suggestion.

Like Ben is saying, buy Fuji...

Buy the X-A7

Look what this camera can do with its kit lens. Look what you can do for 700$ out of the box... it is crazy :)

X-A7 looks very good. However, I like X-T30 more.

Perhaps in next year I'll acquire the X-A7 as second camera.

hm....i think pentax is good. consider choosing pentax, its cameras are cheap, and some have tons of techs in it

or nex
Hello.

Yes Pentax is good, but I think it do not help to go small an light and get latest tech. In fact, it is not mirrorless, so for now, it's out of consideration. Thanks for reading.

The new Fujifilm X-T30 just arrived yesterday!,

What a nice cam.!

It's a little more small that I though.

The pics I'd made with it looks nice.

I like I have 55mm at F4 in this 'kit' lens.

At my hand I think the X-T30 with 18-55mm lens is lighter than Lumix G85 with its 12-60mm.

I hate the location of Q button.

It's more difficult to handle with one hand, what I'm accustomed to.

I have to get used to use both hands to take photos.

Yes, I think I'll get some adapter to try other lens.

If I'm conviced of X-T30, I'll buy some other glass.

Agree with this.

Yes, the Q button is sensitive. I'll try upgrade the firmware to try solve this.
The only gripes I have are battery life and their wireless phone app.
Yes, the battery life seems less than G85 and NX30.

I>f you want a camera for photos, and don't care about 4K video, buy the new Canon M6 MKII, cheap body, cheap lenses, and 32.5mp...but... terrible, fake 4K video...

>Anyway, the Fuji XT30 is really cheap, and the best hybrid body of them all... don't forget, none of them has IBIS. The problem with Lumix cameras is the unreliable AF performance, but its IBIS is the best I've seen... The Sony A6600 has IBIS though...

>Summing it up: BUY the SONY A6400.

Thanks for you opinion, flip 21.

Thanks Ben Herrmann for your opinion too.

Thanks to everyone for reading and kind words.

I'll try some days this Fuji and I'll tell you all, what I found.

For me I am still looking for a good camera for video, that has a selfie LCD. I have two big concerns with the X-A7, which are the AF performance, which seems very poor, despite what they predict, and also the audio quality. Although the camera has a mic input there seems to be a terrible audio hiss, like the Samsung Nx30 did, due to bad pre-amps, or the AGC.

What I don't understand is this. Is the camera already on sale? If so, why is no DP review yet? I mean, the Sony A6100 was already reviewed by Dpreview. Also, there are a lot of videos about the camera from Asian countries, but very few from american youtubers, or european ones. Although Asian youtubers review the camera as great, the AF from their videos seems very bad and also the audio... So I don't get it?!?!? what's the problem with Fuji!?!?? What is the problem with this particular model?!!?

I was looking for a camera that:

1) Focuses significantly better than NX500 in low-light conditions

2) Makes videos without any AF sound (suitable lens)

3) Allows mic input.

4) Has at least tilting screen.

I ended up with Sony a68 + Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM lens + Røde external mic. There are trade-offs: 1) little manual controls in video and 2) fastest aperture is f/3.5 in video. For my use, which is not professional (home videos)--it is fine. For better results, I might need to get the newer Sony or Fujifilm MILCs.

As for XA7, after your posts, I did looked into it and it does look like a very interesting camera. Not something I'll buy right now though.

No, it doesn't do 4k and the screen is not fully articulating either (tilts 135 degrees up and 55 degrees down). It is fine for my use, but could be a deal breaker for others ;-)

Enjoy ;-)

Hello everybody.

This thread is not dead (yet).

Why is so important to choose one system or another?

I think it's because of money.

If I could have all the enough money, I could have multiple systems and in the end I may choose two or three to keep.

But it's not my case.

At this point, I'll give Fujifilm X-T30 a try.

The camera arrives in a couple of weeks.

Hello everyone,

Just in case someone is interested, I post in Fuji forum what I've found in this Fujifilm X-T30 in some days of use, taking into account my previous experiences with Samsung NX30 and Lumix G85.

Feel free to comment here or there, at taste.

Thanks a lot all of you, for your kind comments.

This is not over yet!
