not only does it run all the time on the M50 (and mirrorless) but it also has to run at least twice as much. one scan for AF another scan for image.
If this were true, then it would apply to their DSLRs when using LV. Have you tried testing this? I did when i owned my 70D, i compared photos taken in LV with dual pixel, to photos taken through the OVF. No difference. I think your theory is false.The
Sorry it is not a theory. That is simply the way a DPAF sensor works. Canon has described it in many a patent application.
more reason is Canon is notorious for limiting the performance of cameras to match their price point. This can include sensor performance, not just AF. It could even include sensor wiring, like whether they use copper wiring or not.
Oh so they will change the entire sensor architecture to gimp 1/2 EV? and I'm the one with the "theory"?
News flash. Increased processing causes heat more evident in smaller cameras. Increased heat causes an increased noise floor which will reduce DR.
What's more likely is that with the larger bodied DSLRs Canon was able to sink more heat away from the sensor.
Which is a simple answer and solution to why you wouldn't see it on a DSLR liveview because there is less engineering compromises that have to be made.
First you claim it's due to more "scans", now it's due to heat buildup. Well we can test for that too, very easily. Turn the camera on and within the first second, take a photo. Then another shot after you leave the camera on, running, scanning, for what, ten minutes? Half hour?
Since you are the expert here, tell me how long it will take for that heat to build and make a difference in the IQ? If what you say is true, the longer the sensor is on, the worse the SNR should be due rising temps.
Right? Or are you now going to say the internals IMMEDIATELY increase to maximum temperature and remain at that exact point no matter how long the sensor is active? If that's the case i gotta get one of those for my car, INSTANT heat at maximum output, very nice.
Feel free to explain, im dying to know the physics behind it all.
