More Sigma 16 shots and thoughts

I've kept the 16 F1.4 on my M6II since I got it, to get a feel for it, and force myself to shoot with it. The weather has been pretty bad, but snow and ice can make for fun subjects too. I also treated myself to a bunch of Lightroom presets by Jared Polin, which I've been having fun with. I've indicated which preset I used, if any:
Acid Wash
Aquamarine
Burnt Sienna
Silvertide
Kensington

Silvertide
Harvest Moon Vibrant

Gritty

Golden Grahams

And a lake where we went for an icy run this morning (not on the lake!);

I'm liking this lens a lot. I bought it primarily for indoor shooting, and it's great at that. It's enough wider and faster than the 22 F2 that it's not redundant, and it seems to be faster focusing (though I haven't been bothered by the speed of the 22, which others complain about). It's also good for a lot of outdoor shooting. It reminds me of the very first lens I bought for a film SLR, other than the 50mm it came with, which was a 28mm. The 16 is equivalent to a 25.6, so a bit wider, but very similar. I shot lots of great landscapes with that 28 on my Mamiya DSX 100 manual SLR (it didn't even have auto exposure, you had to line up a meter needle with a mark in the viewfinder). Since I got my first UW for a DSLR (the 10-22), I've been used to shooting landscapes mostly at the widest end of whichever zoom I'm using (now the 11-22). I get lots of shots I like, but I often forget that there are intermediate positions. Using the 16 prime forces me to use a different focal length, and I'm enjoying it. The size of the lens means that I probably won't often be taking it in my small bag when I have a different lens mounted, but I suspect that I'll make an effort to use it when I can. It's a beautifully made lens, that balances well on an M, feels solid, but isn't overly heavy or big (it's only large in comparison with other EF-M lenses).

As the length of a thread approaches 150, the probability that someone will make the obvious "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" remark approaches 1.
