new to Fuji - 18-55MM f2.8-4 or 16-80mm f4?

Hello,

After lots of research I've landed on Fuji for a camera to buy (X-T3 or X-T30... still not sure!). I'll be using it for walk around photography, family events, travel, and some hiking/landscape (handheld). So for me a good mid-range zoom is absolutely key to enjoying my camera. There are a LOT of mixed reviews out on the 16-80mm, so much so that I'd say it's near impossible to really judge its quality. Some out there call it the best zoom lens on the Fuji system, others are saying that the 18-55mm provides the same image quality but the benefits of a wider aperture at 18mm, being smaller, and being cheaper make it the better buy.

I am also thinking of a 23mm f2 or f1.4, so I don't REALLY need this zoom lens to work great indoors or in low light. For people who have had experience with either, what is your recommendation?

sidenote: I have seen Christopher Frost's review of the 16-80mm and the corner sharpness and distortion problems are troubling, but he is not using one of the newer cameras and he was probably using an older firmware and suffering from shutter shock. Can anyone point to another "objective" review of this lens yet?
