Re: If a G9X Mark III is coming...

I think the best thing Canon could do with a follow-up is cut the size down by a third. Keep the same lens and fixed lcd but make it so small and unobtrusive that a person wouldn’t mind having it in their pocket alongside their smartphone. Not that the current G9X is huge but I think you could give the line some extended life because people would be amazed at what capabilities come out of such a small camera. Will they actually do something like this, my instincts tell me no, but I think if they just trot out a warmed over version of the Mark II it won’t sell well at all.
Hmm, that would be a tall order I think. Perhaps if it was thinner vs just smaller:
-the mode dial was removed and moved to a left right function 2 way selector or on screen menu
-sensor size was dropped from 1" to 1/1.7 or whatever is available. I wished Canon had made a slightly larger sensor version of the Olympus XZ-10 although that is not going to solve your size statement.
-employment of a periscope zoom assembly, or having 2-3 lens modules and having an intermediate "focal lengths" as crops. Might have 24, 50, 85 as real lenses and 28, 35, 100 as crops but would appear as 24, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100 from the back screen (or user custom crops).
Now reading that...I think I just described a flagship cellphone photo hardware with perhaps some extra external controls and lacking shock, weather resistance and huge screen. Somedays I wish my S7 just lost all the phone, same thickness but down to a credit card size only for the screen device.
