First experience with the Sigma 16 F1.4
12

So, in a fit of self-indulgence, I got the Sigma 16 F1.4. It's the largest EF-M mount lens I own (maybe the largest available?). Here it is, compared with the 18-150, both side and top views:

And here are a few preliminary shots, taken in the aftermath of one of the biggest snowfalls in recent memory in Boulder (it's still coming down, but more slowly now):

Wide open

Stopped down to F5.6

And a few indoors, where it will probably see the most use:

These were all converted in Lightroom, and downsized to 2000 pixels for the web. I used the LR profile for the lens. It looks pretty good wide open, which is where I expect to be shooting it mostly. As with the 56 F1.4, electronic shutter comes in handy for bright daylight conditions, where you might need faster than 1/4000 at ISO 100 to shoot at F1.4.

Even though it's the biggest and heaviest EF-M lens I have, it's still impressively small and light for what it gives you, and feels nicely balanced on the M6II.

Edit: I tried to tag the lens for this post, but DPR's only options were micro four-thirds or Sony E mount. I tagged the Sony E mount version, even though, obviously, I'm using the EF-M version. Maybe DPR will fix this sometime soon? I had the same problem with adding the lens to my gear list.

As the length of a thread approaches 150, the probability that someone will make the obvious "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" remark approaches 1.
