Typically tele-converters cause significant degradation. Even the Sony 70-200gm with Sony 1.4x converter looks pretty bad.

I have been told that, and it is a common conception.

However, using specifically Kenko TCs, I had no such experience, and even showed as much to fellow photographers when shooting the same subject.

On the other hand, I just took my nefew on a half-day experience, gave hime the Sony A9+Sony FE 200-600 g OSS, for the first time ever in his life holding a set with a telephoto, and basically first timer for every aspect, but the setup was what I'm working with nowadays.  --Long story short, he got better shots than me as I set it up "for success".  --Just saying, sometimes, the way you set up your equipment, may influence your experience with it dramatically.
