Yep, I don't think many people deliberately troll cameras. I think most have legitimate experiences with cameras that forms their opinions. In my case, the G5X MkII has performed very well. My favorite crop-factor camera is a Leica CL digital. It produces fantastic images for an APS-C sensor and is very compact. So that's my compact camera benchmark. The G5X is clearly not as good - dynamic range is not as good and noise levels are higher. However, in the sharpness category the G5X does a little better. So I'd chalk up the differences with different users as sample variation. My eyes are pretty much as good as anyone else's, so I can tell the differences in images as well as the next guy (in some cases I'm more critical - it's the engineer in me). One thing I noted earlier in the post is that you can be in macro mode and not know it and get crummy images at distance. Some of the criticisms may come from that. But others likely not. So the moral of the story I think is to be sure you have a good copy. Mine happens to be good and as good as the Sony RX's I've had (wouldn't say better except in the ergonomics area). Anyway, good discussion.
