It looks to me as if the photo was way under-exposed, and then you corrected for that in post-processing.

I see you were using the Manual exposure mode.  How did you determine what shutter speed and aperture to use?  The camera would have likely done better in any other mode.  Sometimes you gotta accept the fact that the engineers at Nikon are of above-par intelligence, and let the camera do some of the work. 

Technical issues aside, unlike some of the other commenters I like the color and lighting on the mountains.  Dramatic and moody.  Had the original photo been lit this way, a little post-processing could have taken it far.

The composition could be improved though.  You have the top of a power pole in the photo, which detracts from the scene.  And the treeline is a bit awkward how it's cut off.
