Low-Res. DP2M Cedar Tree Burr - by the Numbers

I sometimes get lambasted here for quoting numbers, formulae, graphs, etc.

On the property, there is an Eastern Red Cedar tree with quite a nice burr or burl. Unfortunately, the background is quite cluttered with grass, foliage and other trees. But recently I have become more interested in 'background blur' and have developed a formula calculate the f-number needed to obtain a given amount of blur. I did the calculation for the said tree and it told me f/4. I checked the DOF for f/4 with another calculator and was pleased to see that the burr would be in good focus and the sides of the tree slightly OOF which would give a good impression of depth.

All this before stepping out into the yard to take the shot ...
