Sharpness thoughts
2

I always wondered why so many people judge the image quality by its sharpness. I may be wrong but the emphasis on sharpness from Z lenses and lenses in general from any other manufacturer seems a bit too much. As if sharpness was the single most important criteria to produce a nice image.

Imho, focus accuracy is more important than sharpness. When I watch a beautiful movie with great cinematography I notice that sharpness is never exaggerated. Perhaps the opposite. There are always nice but soft anti aliasing around edges of people and objects that we don't get with ultra sharp lenses.

I get the feeling that modern photographers have become so obsessed with sharpness as with megapixels to the point to start looking at charts and things that don't really matter that much.

What do you think?
