15 Bird images with A7R IV and Sigma 60-600mm Sport @ 600mm

Yesterday was an off season weekday and Croton Point, which juts out into the Hudson River, was basically deserted. With no people to disturb the wildlife, it was a perfect, not too cold mid Autumn day for capturing the local birdlife with my A7R IV and Sigma 60-600mm Sport lens.

As I approached the ridge that is far out into the river, near where the Nature Center is, I could see all different birds flying in the trees. But once I was closer, they flew off. I've done this before and just settled down in a single spot and waited until the birds became accustomed to me. It took about an hour, but then I had my choice of subjects. All of them came in range of my lens at 600mm with final images being 26 megapixel APS-C 900mm equivalent crops. All but one, a Red-tail Hawk who became the final image of the day. The sun was getting low and I was making my way home when there was a rustling in the bushes in front of me. The Hawk suddenly took flight to the trees. My camera was already packed, but out it came again as I headed toward those trees. As I got closer, I stopped at intervals to catch an image. The hawk was watching me, but didn't seem to mind from it's height of about 8-10 meters. It was more interested in searching the fields for an end of day meal. I was soon close enough to fill the frame in full 60 megapixel mode with the hawk just as it turned from the field to check on me. I caught its portrait in the golden light of the lowering sun seconds before it saw its prey and flew to the field. I was happy with the image and hope it was successful in capturing its meal.

There are 17 images in total from the day in a new Gallery on my website, including two landscapes from the lower zoom range of the lens. Eight of the images are pictured on this Announcement from my WHAT'S NEW page:

If you would like to see all the day's images with the A7R IV and Sigma 60-600mm Sport, here is the link to the Gallery .
