"We Are One" X-Pro3 teaser film.

The voiceover:

"In the moment, using the optical viewfinder, I am there. Staying connected with my subject. Therefore in the process we are one."

I'm also connected to my pinky finger - I don't need to look at it through an optical viewfinder to remind myself that I'm connected to my pinky finger.

And then when he gets up - what does he do? He looks at the camera. Why? What's so interesting on the camera that wasn't there before? Certainly not the photo you just took.

Is it a pure photographic experience to look at your camera instead of at your subject?

None of the ways he uses the camera in this video are benefitted by the OVF.

  • Uses large lenses that probably block a portion of the OVF.
  • Manual focusing.
  • Shooting close up shots where parallax can be an issue.
  • Shooting at extreme angles (and hunching his back to do so).
  • Using long lenses.
  • Shooting portraits where you want precise control over framing & focus points.
  • Shooting at shallow depth of field (otherwise why use such large lenses & why manual focus?)
  • Shooting in dramatic lighting scenarios where live view can help with exposure decisions.

I can't believe Fuji's advertising guys missed the fact that he's not using the OVF!

Did they actually say that out loud? That the "look and feel" (and not the functionality) are what's important?
