Star Trails at Joshua Tree NP
5

I posted a test shot I did at a local park in NY a couple of weeks ago in hopes of getting some feedback in preparation for my trip to Joshua Tree. As a result, I bought an external intervalometer since I saw some inconsistencies in the internal one on the Nikon D850 (it skipped some shots and I ended up with a bunch of gaps). I took these two photos on consecutive nights (Thursday and Friday).

The first photo was made up of 200 shots at 30 seconds each (with a 1 second interval to write to the card). One thing I noticed were all of these white dots. Do these look like hot pixels? I didn't take a dark shot to try and correct it on this particular night.

The next night I went to a different spot and only did 150 shots at 30 seconds each, also with a 1 second interval to write to the card. This time, I did take a dark shot with the lens cap on but it didn't seem to remove the white dots. This got me thinking that maybe it is dust on the sensor? I did seem to notice similar white dots on some of the daytime shots I took but not all of them.
