Just sitting on a surface? Even mounted on a sturdy tripod, pressing the shutter release can add visible motion. That is why so many landscape photographers use remote release cables. The poor man's remote release is the 2 second timer. I always use it when I am using a tripod or makeshift camera support. Very valuable, only costs 2 extra seconds of your time.
