They are certainly a progression but I use my GX7, GX85 and GX9 as a set with no particular attention to which camera get used for what purpose with which lens.

Each camera is a little better than its predecessor but the GX7 was such a great camera when it was first released it is a very hard act to follow.

I doubt if I will ever be out of love with my GX7 and I suspect that I would have been almost as happy with 3 x GX7 cameras as the present ones that I own.

But if it comes to just one camera then why not consider a GX9 instead of the GX80.

The GX80/85 is not as cheap as the classic defining GX7 version and not as good as the more presently competitive GX9. A sort of “Mr In-between”.

+1.

IMHO GX9 is a major improvement on GX7. But is only marginally for GX85.

If I want to upgrade GX7, GX9 is the best option on feature. However, currently GX7 (if there is still new copy in the market) and GX85 are dirt cheap. As per my shopping yesterday, GX9 is around 30~40% more expansive than GX85... On cost performance, GX85 is still the best buy today.

The same reason I picked G85 instead of G95 (to upgrade GX7) couple of months ago. 😁
