The Center of the Galaxy

The center of the Galaxy seen from the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir in Baja California. The Sierra is one of the darkest professional astronomical sites in the world; when there is no moon, the sky is light and the Earth is dark.

This is a stack of 16 images each of 15 second at f/4 aligned and combined with Starry Landscape Stacker. So, effectively, it's a 15 second exposure at f/1. Pretty cool that a $40 program can turn your slow kit lens into an f/1 lens.

This is my first attempt with this program. Next time, I'd probably shoot 64 images each of 8 seconds at f/5.6; that would maintain the overall exposure but reduce trailing and coma.
