It is good for the lake and for the entire region.  And the tufa towers will likely survive this better than they'll survive the tourist and photographer abuse.

I've come to really love the delicate, smaller sand tufas than I do the big tufa towers.  Neither of these is more than 18" high.  They remind me of fairy castles.
