If I am shooting for a specific market, I bias my shooting towards that market. It only makes sense that if I am, for example, doing a glamour portrait session, that I am going to do my very best to make the subject look better in the picture than she looks in real life.

As a pro, if I am not giving my client what they are paying for, I am not doing what I am being paid to do.

OTOH, if I am shooting purely for myself, I don't have to be concerned about what other people think of the final product. In this situation, if someone likes the image, that is a happy coincidence, but it isn't necessarily what I am striving for.
