8-16mm: How important is the lack of filter threads?

I was never really happy with my 10-24mm and never considered the (presumably higher quality) 8-16mm as an option. Nothing to do with size or price (I figure such a lens must be big if you want quality all the way to the corners) but the lack of filter threads turned me off it from launch. Lately I've started to question whether I've been placing too much emphasis on this, and I'm interested in how others view the lens, therefore this poll.

I'd really like to own a lens like the 8-16mm but I won't buy it because it lacks filter threads.

I don't own the 8-16mm but I'd really like to own it. I don't mind the lack of filter threads.

I'm not interested in the 8-16mm for another reason than the lack of filter threads (such as size or cost).
