You have another thread going and the guys over there are giving great advice too.

The thing that made it all "click" for me is I realized the camera electronics applies the ISO setting only after the sensor has collected all the photons. So it's important to collect as many photons as you can at the very start to reduce noise. That's done by setting the shutter as long as you can (eg, 1/60 sec is better than 1/200 sec) and setting the aperture as big as you can (eg, f/4 is better than f/8). This allows you to use the lowest ISO you can.
