Question about first light meter

Hi guys,

I have been shooting lots of portraits and fashion in studio and outdoors lately. I noted that the trial and error approach in adjusting the flash power is a waste and does not always bring good results. So I was thinking of adding an external light meter.

My choice was on the Sekonic 308x which I can find at about 200 euros. But then I read a couple of threads on DPR mentioning the issues with calculating the right amount of fill flash, which would be helpful outdoor.

So I started looking at next model up, which is the 478D, which I can find at about 320 euros.

The price is not low, and I was wondering if this is a good investment. I also searched for  cheaper options, but there does not seem to be lots of options - apart a bulky two-unit one sold by Amazon.

Any recommendation or help to clear my doubts would be really appreciated! Many thanks in advance!!
